Shinobi Review:
Many moons ago gamers flocked to the arcades and thier genises in order to navigate Joe Mushashi through his hellishly hard side-scrolling exploits. But you see Mr.Mushashi was no average joe" he was a ninja. and a bad-ass one at that. gamers loved Shinobi. flash-forward to 2002 OverWorks the original Developers of Shinobi have just released The Next-gen update. Is it up to snuff? yes. For this New title Sega decided to scrape fan-favorite Joe Mushashi and make new for new ninjustu blood to star in Shinobi: enter Hotsumo. All you shinobi boys yearning for a playable Mushashi..dont fret. Hotsumo has the bad-ass looks and mean moves that made Mushashi such a joy to control. And like ol' Joe Hotsumo has single-and-multiple shuriken toss for stunning foes, ninja magic, plus an innovative new stealth-dash manuever, simple but effective sword combos and the abilty to run agianst walls.
Gameplay: Hotsumo can perform all the moves said above smoothly and seamlessly thanks to the flawless (most of the time) enemy-targeting. new comers will struggle a bit but once you get the controls down theres nothing more satysfying then jamming your katana in your unlucky foes throatana. Shinobi is all-out chatic-action,so progression through each level goes as follows: run around meet gaggle of foes, slice and dice your foes into mince meat,(this unlocks doors that prevent you from getting any further) repeat. no silly puzzles,no exploration..just kill your way through each level. Shinobi delivers rewarding Ninja action.
overall:9.0
replay value: speaking of rewarding gameplay, determined gamers who search high-and low for hidden scattred shinobi coins will be treated to well-worth the effort bonuses like,an art gallery, hidden playable charecters, and more goodies. the ranking system which evaluates your overall performence on a level and grades you on it will keep hardcore gamers playing for days. overall score:8.5
Sound/music: Nothing says shinobi like techno music eh? I dug these tunes though.
Visuals/graphics: pretty drab and boring, the game does after all take place in an appoctlyptic futureistic tokyo. dont expect eye-popping scenery or realistic textures here. overall score: 7.0
overall score: if your looking for a great, challenging action title then toss back some shuriken with Shinobi.9.5
